Bespoke Engagement Rings & Heirloom Redesigns
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I purchase the exact rings featured in the gallery?
The pieces in our gallery are bespoke, one-of-a-kind private commissions crafted for past clients. However, they serve as the perfect starting point for your own design. Ian Davidson will work with you to handcraft a unique variation tailored to your specific story, gemstone choices, and budget.
How do I know I will love the design before it is cast?
We believe in absolute accuracy before commitment. Unlike studios that rely solely on digital sketches, Davidson Jewels utilizes advanced Formlabs 3D resin printing. We print a high-resolution, physical prototype of your exact ring for you to hold, try on, and perfect before a single ounce of precious metal is cast.
Can you use the gold and diamonds from my old family jewelry?
We frequently repurpose heirloom diamonds and sapphires into stunning new designs. However, we do not melt down old gold directly, as mixing old alloys creates "porosity" (microscopic bubbles) that makes the new ring brittle. Instead, we use our innovative "Gold Credit" system—giving you a direct financial credit for the pure value of your old gold, and casting your new piece in fresh, structurally perfect 14k or 18k gold.
How long does a custom engagement ring take to make?
Once your design is locked in and materials are sourced, our typical production timeline at our downtown Calgary studio is 3 to 4 weeks. Because every piece is meticulously handcrafted by Ian Davidson, we recommend booking your initial Discovery Consultation 6 to 8 weeks before your planned proposal.
What materials do you work with?
We curate only the finest materials, working exclusively in 14k and 18k white, yellow, and rose gold, as well as platinum. We ethically source natural diamonds (accompanied by GIA grading reports), premium lab-grown diamonds, sapphires, and rare coloured gemstones.
